2. Will the eBay Move be Painful for Affiliates?

This week on the GeekCast, Will Martin-Gill, senior manager of Internet marketing for eBay, joined Sam Harrelson, Jim Kukral, Lisa Picarille and me to talk about the transition of the eBay affiliate program from CJ to in-house.

eBay affiliate program Will entertained a variety of questions about the move, as well as what will be involved for affiliates to migrate and whether ShoeMoney was the catalyst for eBay leaving Commission Junction.

The tenth episode of the GeekCast Show also gets into Internet video guys becoming mainstream superstars, 1 TB external hard drives, and conference locations.

Also, some Squidoo trash talk where we tried to figure out why somebody would use the eBay module that Will mentioned on Squidoo. It seems to benefit Squidoo, but not the lens owner, unless I am missing something.

5. Affiliate Marketing Is Dead

I recently wrote an article for the print edition of eMarketing & Commerce magazine, “Affiliate Marketing Is Dead,” and it’s now available on the magazine site.

Affiliate marketing is dead. Long live affiliate marketing.

But before you accuse me of being some Chicken Little type or just another clown infatuated with hyperbole, let me explain.

The way affiliate marketing was done back in the 1990s — and still today by some folks — is done. I’m talking about banners. It’s all about Affiliate 2.0, and you might already be late to the game.
