Lisa Picarille, Editor-in-Chief of Revenue Magazine, and myself chatted about a number of affiliate marketing issues during the weekly 30-minute show. Affiliate Summit and ShareASale will each match up to $5,000 in donations. There are a number of auctions on eBay where companies can bid to have host Brian Littleton, President/CEO of ShareASale, wear shirts, hats and pins with company logos during the Affiliate Jam Session and Sing-a-Long. Also, there is an auction to have a company logo placed on all of the Affiliate Summit staff shirts for the duration of the three day conference. So far, Connie Berg of FlamingoWorld.com, is dominating the auctions. Just a couple days remain - be a part of the action and help some kids in Las Vegas Additionally, companies can donate directly to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada, and they will be recognized at AffiliateMarketersCare.com. Payless.com Affiliate Offer "My informal poll at a conference this year consisted of going around a room of 40 people that were affiliates and affiliate managers and asking about their status in high school," commented Lisa. Lisa continued, "I found out that most of them were drama geeks, and sort of outsiders." I was thinking about that today when I read a post on The SEO Loser blog, "Webmaster World PubCon Las Vegas 2006 - How I Learned I am an SEO Loser". The post likened "the majority of the successful or famous webmasters and SEOs" to high school cliques. Funny stuff, and it sure resonated with the readers, based on the numerous comments that related similar experiences. Anyhow, as we get closer to Affiliate Summit, I just wanted to share some networking tips to help break down the walls, meet people, and do business. Damn the cliques. First, have a listen to Marty Fahncke's 10 Tips to Get Maximum Value from Affiliate Summit - lots of good ideas to effectively network. We've got a social network set up for the conference - create and account and start initiating conversations with people you want to meet. Then you'll have some common ground and familiarity when you hit Vegas. When on site at the show, be sure to actually go to the conference - the exhibit hall, the educational sessions, and especially the networking events - see the agenda for details. Save the gambling for later - you're there to meet people, create business, and learn. Don't forget to bring a stockpile of business cards. If you want to meet somebody - it can be as simple as introducing yourself, trading cards, and then scampering off. There doesn't have to be anything profound exchanged. Save that for your creative method of following up after the show. Advertising is available at a price of $750 for display ads (728x90) and $300 for text ads (50 words or less).
